Knitting Pattern ~ Checkers Washcloth

by Shelly Hazard

Hand-knit cotton washcloths are much softer than regular facecloths. Using unmercerized cotton makes care simple, just put them in the washer and dryer with your towels. Here's a simple pattern for you to try.

Materials:

  • 1 skein 100% unmercerized cotton yarn (recommended: Sugar 'n Cream made by Lily)
  • pair of knitting needles, size 7

Directions:

Cast on 40 stitches.

Row 1: K5,P5, repeat across row
Row 2: K5,P5, repeat across row
Row 3: K5,P5, repeat across row
Row 4: K5,P5, repeat across row
Row 5: K5,P5, repeat across row

Row 6: P5,K5, repeat across row
Row 7: P5,K5, repeat across row
Row 8: P5,K5, repeat across row
Row 9: P5,K5, repeat across row
Row 10: P5,K5, repeat across row

Repeat rows 1-10 five times. Then bind off and weave in the yarn ends.
